Hair cut pleaseby *Loopydave

Occasionally I get someone asking me about painting hair - not sure I'm the right person to ask, as I'm still working on doing a better job at it - but here's my general approach...

- Work up from the large overall shape first with general tones and shadows
- Start working out the ribbon like clusters
- Add the small groups and single hairs, usually lighter than the hair groups below it.
- Add the final highlights

Breaking hair down into ribbons or clumps helps save a little time, but there is no real way of getting around just drawing a whole lot of hair strands if you want a somewhat realistic look. A smarter person than me would map out the hair a bit better before they paint, but I enjoy a little 'winging it' as I go along kind of thing, particularly if its a bit stylised like this particular piece.
