Fantastic work! I'm an amateur with digital media and usually stick with traditional illustration. Is there a term for when the text is "hollow" like that and you can see the picture behind it? I've been wanting to look up some tutorials on how to do it but I'm afraid I don't know what to search for (and how to phrase it). Could you point me in the right direction?
Mask or masking would be a term to cover that, particularly if you are using photoshop.
I just painted a white box as a layer above the painting, typed the text where I wanted it, held down the command key when clicking on that layer and used the loaded selection to delete that area from the white box. Might sound confusing, but its pretty easy really.
